Golfkeel self-catering units in Banbridge have scooped a top award in the Northern Ireland Tourism Awards 25th Anniversary.

The Ballykeel Road facility won the 'Self Catering Premises of the Year' category.

The NITB approved five star Golfkeel units 'The Loft' and 'The Dovedale' were given top prize out of over two hundred and fifty entries at the awards ceremony.

Oonagh and John O'Neill received the award from NITB Board Member Mandy Martin.

John Douglas, Tourism Officer for Banbridge District Council, and Vice Chairman of the Council Mr Seamus Doyle were both present at the prestigious awards ceremony.

This was a majopr acahievement for the Banbridge area and the Golfkeel Self-Catering units which give tourists a unique opportunity to stay in a rural location while only one mile from Banbridge town centre and can cater for up to twelve visitors with all en-suite bedrooms.

Both Oonagh and John were delighted with this accolade and look forward to the busy season ahead and would like to thank all those who have supported this project.

One more unit is currently being considered adjacent to Golfkeel Self-Catering and is currently with the planners.

Golfkeel Self Catering Cottages are ideal for the business and holiday visitors alike.

Both of the detached cottages are circa 2,000 square feet and are set over two storeys and located in their own private grounds with secure on-site parking for 6 cars.

In 2000 under the guidance of owners Oonagh and John O'Neill, Golfkeel was sympathetically converted from barns dating back over 240 years.

Lovingly restored, great attention was paid to retaining the original stonework and the end result is two cottages with exceptional character and old world charm, both featuring many period items.

All furniture and fittings were especially chosen and designed to give a relaxed country feeling, with both cottages boasting extremely comfortable family sized accommodation.

Both units have been awarded 5 Star Status by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board - the highest and most sought after accolade.
